Least favourite Cable songs
« on: September 06, 2006, 12:10:53 am »
Ok which are the songs that more often than not you skip past when they come onto your Ipod, for one reason or another these are my least favourite Cable songs (not saying I don?t like them ? just don?t like them as much as the others)

1 God Gave Me Gravity (sacrilege I know but I always thought it was a slightly dull song and it?s never particularly grabbed me)

2 Seventy (although this one has grown on me slightly recently it still is one that will get skipped in the car quite a lot)

3 Widower (have always found this one quite dull)

4 Steer (Unknown 2 in the audio section, I think I have the name right but this was a song that has never grabbed me)

5 Electro Gazelle (this is a really good example of my liking a song but pretty much always skipping past it when it comes on)

Ahoy!

You know, I was gonna post this exact same topic but I guess you beat me to it!

There's only a couple of songs that I'm not so big on:

1.  Widower - never really seems to get going to me.  I mean, it's alright but there's no real hook to it that makes me come back to it.

2.  Brothers and Sisters - same as Widower, really; it just never seemed to get into my head the way that all other Cable songs do.

I would've agreed with you about God Gave Me Gravity up until I joined this forum.  Everyone on here seems to rave about this song and I never really got what the fuss was all about.  But for some reason I decided to give it a good listen and it really has grown on me a lot.  I hadn't really noticed until Greg started talking about it, but the drumming is amazing and given a bit of time the hooks really start to sink in!

Also, I really like Unknown 2!  But I don't really get what the fuss is all about with Vertigo!

Thanks,

It does seems awfully bad to put this subject on a fansite, but hey - nobody's perfect.

There are a couple that I don't generally listen to very much... The Clairvoyant, Give Em What They Want, the middle two or three on 'Sublingual'. Not to say they're bad.

Well, some are.

Guys, guys c'mon now!! We all know there ain't such thing as a bad Cable song! There just isn't! Even the instrumentals, b-sides, rough demos, covers and unreleased tunes are all solid gold...

*Thinks about it for a sec*

Okay, okay there's maybe one exception...Murdering Spree but only for the overly long ending but even then the first 4 minutes are class!!

Steer and The Clairvoyant would be in my top 15!

I don't really get what the fuss is all about with Vertigo!

Ahoy!

LOL!  I knew this topic would cause arguments!

I gave Vertigo another listen and it's good but it's not one of my favourites (how's that for diplomacy!?).  But, yeah there is no such thing as a bad Cable song, I agree.  There's no songs I actually dislike, just some I don't listen to as much as other Cable songs.

This thread's gonna end in tears, I can tell!!

Thanks,

That is the point of the thread, its not ?which songs do you hate? it?s which do you like the least. If it does start turning into an argument then I?ll delete it, I just thought this would of made an interesting thread in contrast to the ?which is your favourite song? one.

Ahoy!

It's all in good humour (I hope!).  Like I've said before, musical opinion is so subjective that no-one can be criticised for liking one song more than another - each to their own and all that.  No need to delete the thread - I don't really think it's gonna end in a playground scrap!  ;D

It's definitely an interesting thread - it always makes me think when someone doesn't like a song that I love, it just goes to show how different musical tastes are.  Though, from the replies on this thread, I think most people agree that the middle few songs on Sub-Lingual (i.e. Widower, Brothers and Sisters, etc.) are a little weaker than the others - but not because they are bad songs, just because the rest of the songs on Sub-Lingual are so damn good!

Thanks,

Ha ha, no i think we're all probably old enough to stop it from degenerating into brutal personal slur - especially as it's heading that way in another thread! It's all subjective, no need for deletion. Corporate_Automation I respect your opinion highly. There is no right or wrong, only Cable fans...

..How can you possibly want to skip Richie's fill in Brothers+Sisters though!?  ;)

Ahoy!

Yeah, I'm gonna keep away from that other thread - thing's are turning nasty over there!

As for Richie's fill in Brothers and Sisters: you aren't a drummer by any chance, are you?  There seems to be loads on here!  Cable must've really appealed to drummers!

Incidentally, I just had a listen to Brothers and Sisters and it sounds like it's in 7/4 - another Cable song in a strange time signature!

There is no right or wrong, only Cable fans...

Amen, brother!

Thanks,

I love every single song on Sublingual. For me, it's far superior to Animals and the best album I own.

Animals is amazing though. My favourite Cable songs are on there. I'm not to keen on The Colder Climate. Although I do love the ending to that song. Also, there are a few on Downlift that I could pass on perhaps.

Brother and Sisters is an ace track, one of the best! I can't believe people think it isn't that good. I agree with what folk are saying about Widower though

Not another one! ;D

O.K. then, I'll admit I was wrong - it seems that quite a lot of people love Brothers and Sisters!  Though I'll stick by what I said about Widower being the most common least favourite song (if you see what I mean!).

Now I'm waiting for everbody to post and say that they absolutely love Widower and it's their favourite song ever! ;D

Thanks,

Nope sorry can't do that, and i didn't like Brothers and Sisters, its more of a shouting order than a song! Sorry guys. Clairvoyant was a nice one, def top 15. Vertigo? Didn't hear that one, guess they never played it when I saw them, it's not a b-side is it? Colder Climate is a great song, never liked it that much until I heard them warming up with it whilst I waited outside one of their gigs. Ahhh memories  :'(
