Ahoy!

Favourite Cable song?  Hmmmm...

I think I'd have to say Ultra Violet - I love it!  But Land Speed Record is a close second.  But I also love Song 1!  It's too hard to pick - they're all my favourites!

Favourite album? I couldn't possibly chose between When Animals Attack and Sub-lingual!  Can I have both?!

Thanks,

Corporate_Automaton

This is a Tuff one I don't think I'll be able to make up my mind! The first Single I got was Whisper Firing Line on 7" blue record maybe God Gave me Gravity or Sale of the Century or Seventy or Hydra or New Set of Bruises (What a great name for a song) not sure, there all to good!!

My favourite Cable Cover was San Quentin off the Brixton EP. Killer drum fills in that one, Richie on Fire!!

Tuff questions

Greg.

I think lots of songs had their individual moments, but for the sheer bloody minded, always finished with it, smashed your brains out with it live-ness, it has to be oubliette.
"concrete in your veins!"

and the best line in a cable song ever 'salt water reptile, dancing with a friend of mine'.

Cable were one of those rare bands who never wrote a bad song, they were all brilliant.

Its been seven years since I've heard any new recorded Cable. Eaven though some of these tracks are Demos and B-sides. They still sound fresh.

Tankyou for putting them on the site for everyone to hear!!

I always liked The Colder Climate, especially played live. Remember seeing them do this at the Point(?) in Oxford and during the quiet/breakdown bit Richie stood up and went outside for some air and came back and sat down at exactly the right time as the song begins to build up again. Genius!

Enjoying the new(ish) old very much as well. Ta very much for that.

Any chance of anything from the Radio 1 live stuff that they broadcast on John Peel's show? or session tracks if that's not too much too ask??

Cheers

Tim

Funny you should ask Tim, as some of you might have noticed we now have a audio section on the site. So far we have unreleased songs and a couple of rare vinyl b-sides but I have been offered the Peel sessions and some live stuff so as soon as I have it it?ll be posted for your listening pleasure.

I?m curious as to how long it is until people are deciphering the lyrics to the unreleased songs in the Lyrics forum, anyway enjoy them.

I was thinking the same thing earlyer.

Maybe Matt himself could shed some light on what some of the lyrics are.

what I can tell you is that I know for sure that Neil Copper is on 'Dead wood for Green' and some of the raw stuff (Lo-fi recordings) you have on there. Richie is on the rest.

Just to say thanks for putting up those rare Cable tracks, ive heard the b-sides but the rest i never knew existed, its quite refreshing to hear some Cable songs that ive never heard.  Extra Limbs would have made a great album track with some more production! It sounds like an early one, some of the others sound like they were recorded around sublingual.  Some early peel sessions would be great too!

I always thought that Vertigo would of made a great single and One For The Ladies stallion would of fitted really well on the Sub-Lingual album

1. Sports Cars and Devil Worship
2. Oubliette
3. Comprendez?
4. Deadwood For Green
5. Pocket Promise
6. Do The Tube
7. Souvenir
8. Choice
9. Apparently
10. The (We Did The Music For The Sprite Ad) Blues

Best overall album was 'When Animals Attack'. It's still on regular rotation after 9 years or so.

On 'Deadwood...';  "Take the backseat for a while" still sounds like "Take the badger for a walk". Fact.

Hello everyone!!

It?s good to see an active Cable site up and running after all these years, thanks to the geezer that has made the effort with this.

Anyway as for my favourite Cable songs?there are so many, hmmm I?d say at the moment in no particular order: deadwood for green, brothers + sisters, clairvoyant, hydra, the colder climate?.

Deadwood For Green. no doubt about it. it's just one of those songs that builds and builds with downright musical passion and when it finishes it has to go on again. by far the best vocal melodies Matt has ever written (at least of the ones i've heard).

it's a shame it wasn't on the Seventy 7". i think it'd probably be the best song ever on vinyl.

and it's quite often played at First Floor in Derby as the last song of their saturday club night. i tend to lose the plot at that point.

I rememeber at all the indie clubs here i used to always try and request cable songs, not once did they ever get played   >:(  I suppose in Derby they will have a far bigger fanbase. Deadwood for green is such an ace song, infact ive not heard it in a while so il listen to it when i get home.

Easy placid, Eaven when Cable were big the only place in Derby you could get a song played was the Blue note, and probably still is. I heard for the first time the Fully recorded version of Aurther Walker the place went nuts!!

It's a toss up between Ultraviolet, From Here You Can See Yourself (if only because of that damn drumming), Dinky, Oubliette and Pocket Promise... Although I love every track I've ever heard, so it could be anything... Damn, i'll just go for Rick Wakeman...

I love Pocket Promise...

I love Autobahn Head too, how high does Matt sing on that! Richie must have been squeesing his balls while he was singing it on the recording!!

As has been said, there really aren't any bad Cable songs, but I personally think that God Gave Me Gravity is possibly their finest moment, amazing song.

I'm new to the site and this is my first post on any forum ever. For a long time I thought I was the only one who could hear the genius in Cable. Why oh why didn't they get the recognition they deserved,....mainly coz people (especially music moghuls) have shit taste and now that John Peel has gone there is there ever hope of recovery.

Anyway, favourite Cable song? As stated before all there songs were killers and none were meant as album fillers.

10: Electro Gazelle (Really deserves a mention)
9: I'm always right (Can't get over that middle eight)
8: Hexagon eye (Probably the best Chorus of all)
7: Signature tune. (It's a grower)
6: New set of Bruises (Romping stomping angular clanging behomoth)
5: The Blues (Fantastic epic)
4: Blindman (One of there best singles and should have been played at Indie clubs everywhere)
3: God gave me gravity (Excellent inovative song structure and perfect emotive melody at the end)
2: Oubliette (What can I say about the meaty bastard, my former number one)
After many years of Cabling the number one song I crave the most after long periods of absence is....
1: Souvenir (Rip roaring guitars, slicing vocals and amazing live if you were ever privalidged enough)

The fact that two B-SIDES are in there tells you enough and I can only think of Nirvana and the Pixies who have done the same.
Number one album has to be 'when animals attack' as this is true epic album pefection. The other two have few critical points but if I have to; the 1st is a little to short and the 3rd was to polished and lacked there early rawness.

This is edammade, last survivor of Cable, signing out.
