Funnily enough Reading 95 was when I discovered Cable!

Reading 95, same here, I heard them playing Hydra from some was off and was drawn to them. One of the best decisions I've ever made.

Reading '95 - now THAT was a festival. *Eyes glaze over with nostalgia*

I was massively into Marvel comics (specifically the X-Men) back in the 90's and my favourite character at the time was called Cable, so I figured I had to check this band out when I saw the line up - pretty good decision in hindsight!

95 was just a great year for Reading. I was 16, drunk and pretty stoned for most of it but i saw Juliana Hatfield, Deus, Beck, Pavement, White Zombie, Mudhoney, Soundgarden, Neil Young (whose backing band was Pearl Jam if i remember correctly?) Smashing Pumpkins, Green Day (before they turned into U2) and the Foo Fighters (back when they were still a band i didn't hate) oh and Eddie Izzard

1996 was perhaps even better as i saw Weezer, Rage Against The Machine, Rocket From The Crypt, Urusei Yatsura, The Butthole Surfers AND Sonic Youth!!!

Musically speaking they were probably the best two years of my life

Haha I was the opposite, behaved myself '95 but don't really have any memory of Reading '96 due to being incredibly drunk the entire time :(

Hi there and thanx for the Cable songs, every time i try to download them it says i need an account to get them. Is there any way i can get round this?

Thanx.

Daryl.

I used mailinator.com - it doesn't even actually need you to read the email so I guess you could just make something up or put an address of someone you don't like in there ;)

Hi Daryl,

I didn't realsie that, to be honest i wasn't sure which hosts were best to use as i don't often upload files.  That is a pain as i can see now it makes you pay to be able to join for downloading.  Any recommendations where i can re-upload them for FREE downloading?

You don't pay when using 4shared, it just means having to download them one mp3 at a time and registering an account with them. Mediafire is great but since the whole SOPA thing files are quickly taken down if they aren't anything except your own music that you wrote and own (and even then they still can and do get removed) I lost all my files on mediafire which is annoying as i wrote all the music that i had uploaded, i quickly learned that bandcamp is the way forward.

Mediafire requires no sign up and anyone can use it but be warned none of the file sharing sites are all that reliable or great anymore as apparently the music industry owns all music in the world including yours and mine and they will have anything removed without any notice if they don't think that you should be sharing it

In short and the music industry is an evil, corporate, cock sucking, money grubbing, antiquated, motherfuck and here is a link to mediafire http://www.mediafire.com/

Hail Satan!

Thanks, so one file at a time it is for now on 4 shared which is better than nothing.

I will put them onto mediafire later though to make it easier for you's to download them a folder at a time.  I'd be surprised if anyone took offence at some non album cable tracks being uploaded to mediafire unless their ex manager spots them late one night when he's on a lonely mid week bender by himself, shortly after throwing up all over his living room and not cleaning it until a week later becasue thats the kind of sick cunt he is.

Wow, nice work Placid. Can't tell you how long I've been waiting to hear some of these tracks! The only session track I ever owned was Action Replay Replay which I had on an old NME tape I think, about a decade ago - really looking forward to hearing these! Just two or three b-sides I need to track down now, ashamed as I am to say it. So great to hear 'new' Cable stuff after all this time.

What B-Sides do you need cactus?

Hi Knife, I'm looking for Give Em What They Want, Vertigo, Apparently, and Steer (which I don't think was a b-side but I did used to have it on a promo cd that came with some magazine or other). Can you (or anyone) help me out with MP3s? Not sure what the easiest way to do it would be, I'm not very technically minded, can give you my email address or just send a blank cd to be old fashioned about it!

Also, it might be a tall order but it would be great to have an edited version of the extended b-side Murdering Spree with all the feedback at the end cut off, but that's getting a bit picky!

Cheers!

Knife, that would be completely awesome! Good luck on the PC-front, kind sir. Can't remember what Steer sounds like at all, will be cool to hear that again and also finally plug those other wee gaps!

Can't seem to download these rare tracks, tried signing up and it tells me they've sent a confirmation email but didn't get anything. Strange. Any chance of uploading them somewhere else like Media Fire or Box.com?
Thanks

Hey Knifetotheeye, any luck getting your PC up and running? A couple of months ago you mentioned you might be able to send me the four Cable tracks I'm missing. Are you still feeling generous? It would really make my day!

Yeah sorry it died and I haven't been able to replace it yet! Luckily everything's backed up but it's still a massive pain doing everything on my phone.

Ach, no worries, I'll track them down one day! Cheers Knife.

Cable rare unreleased tracks ( I'd love to hear some of these demos polished and freshly recorded, would make for a great new EP for cable to release!  ;)  Temporary Shelter is just beautiful. ):
http://www.4shared.com/folder/37deWuEf/cable_rare_unreleased_tracks.html (http://www.4shared.com/folder/37deWuEf/cable_rare_unreleased_tracks.html)

Just realised the new cd cable released pretty much covers this.  Although instead of being newly recorded, they happen to be old but far better quality recordings on the cd compared to these.

PS - I never thought for a second that these recordings being made available might be against the bands wishes. Especially when they might be seen as competing against such releases as the new cd, i'll remove them at the drop of the hat if this is the case.  Do you reckon they mind?

After speaking to Matt and Darius about the demos and unreleased stuff i know that they are aware of this stuff changing hands, i have to message the guys as they wanted to know when the interview audio was being added to the site, i'll ask if they would sooner we stopped sharing the unofficial stuff.

They mentioned that the reason it wasn't made available through them is that they didn't think it was something they wanted to share. Will post back on this front.

A couple of folk have asked me to send them mp3s of the new demos cd but I won't be doing that while the band can potentially sell them and make some well-earned money, whether it's through this site or elsewhere.

Agreed. Whilst there are still CD's available to buy i would ask everyone not to share the "unreleased and demos" CD's as it is taking money directly from the band. Once they are gone i have no problem with it but until then i ask all forum members not to share the music and anyone doing so on this forum will have their links/posts removed.

?5 isn't a lot of money and it all goes directly to the band members so get buying! Once all the CD's are gone we here at Sublingual towers will happily allow sharing of the music.

Has anyone got the Arthur Walker demo? Pete sent me it about 10 years ago but I seem to have lost it! Been trying to find it with no luck!

Is it possible I could get a link to these sessions and rare demos please?
I know i'm missing a track from one of the sessions so it would be awesome to finally track it down.
It would also be interesting to hear if they're any better or worse than what I have quality wise,
as I recorded a few John Peel sessions myself and if mine happen to be an upgrade I could let you guys know.
I can say now that I do have a great copy of cable's '98 Peel session if people don't have it already,
I think I shared that one on Dime at one point.

Anyway, it would be appreciated if anyone can help me out with this request, pleeease...

Regards, Richie.
